What is it?

Diaper rash is an irritation of the skin consisting of patchwork of inflamed, bright red skin on the buttocks. It occurs mostly in babies, and it is a common condition. Most children suffer from it at least once before they are toilet trained.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms include an uncomfortable burning, irritated and redness on areas of the skin that come into contact with and rub against a diaper. Affected skin may also feel warm to the touch. Kids are usually irritable especially during nappy change.

What to expect?

Things you can try at home to reduce and treat a diaper rash:

  • Try to change the diaper often, especially after a bowel movement.
  • Wash the diaper area with water during each diaper change.
  • Do not use soap or wipes with perfume and alcohol, this may cause extra irritation.
  • Use a diaper ointment containing zinc oxide each time you chance the diaper.
