What is it?

Depression is a mental health disease that causes excessive and prolonged sadness or loss of interest in activities.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms of depression include:

  • Feelings of sadness, emptiness or hopelessness.
  • Loss of interest.
  • Feelings of worthlessness.
  • Irritability.
  • Anxiety.
  • Agitation.
  • Fatigue.
  • Lack of energy.
  • Sleeping disturbances such as difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much.
  • Problems on appetite and weight such as increased appetite and weight gain or loss of appetite and weight loss.
  • Frequent or recurrent thoughts of death, suicidal thoughts or attempts.

What to expect?

In addition to treatment by your doctor or psychologist you can try the following things:

  • Maintaining a normal rhythm by going to sleep at normal times and getting out of bed early in the morning.
  • Try to keep doing your normal daily activities.
  • Try stay active by doing sports or taking a walk.
