What is it?
Depression is a mental health disease that causes excessive and prolonged sadness or loss of interest in activities.
What are the symptoms?
Symptoms of depression include:
- Feelings of sadness, emptiness or hopelessness.
- Loss of interest.
- Feelings of worthlessness.
- Irritability.
- Anxiety.
- Agitation.
- Fatigue.
- Lack of energy.
- Sleeping disturbances such as difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much.
- Problems on appetite and weight such as increased appetite and weight gain or loss of appetite and weight loss.
- Frequent or recurrent thoughts of death, suicidal thoughts or attempts.
What to expect?
In addition to treatment by your doctor or psychologist you can try the following things:
- Maintaining a normal rhythm by going to sleep at normal times and getting out of bed early in the morning.
- Try to keep doing your normal daily activities.
- Try stay active by doing sports or taking a walk.
