What is it?

Achilles tendonitis is an inflammation of the achillis tendon. The achilles tendon is the tendon on the back of the ankle above the heel.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms of achilles tendonitis include pain at the back of the heel, which typically gets worse during walking. The achilles tendon may be swollen, be tender and feel warm.

What to expect?

Things you can try at home to reduce your symptoms:

  • Exercise less often and try to avoid jumping.
  • Painkillers such as acetaminophen may help in relieving pain.
  • An inlay sole may help to reduce symptoms. There are special inlay soles available at pharmacies.
